Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to Launch “Bringing the Farm to School” Producer Trainings
Beginning November 2023, The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Food, Nutrition and Wellness will launch the first in a series of statewide “Bringing the Farm to School” producer trainings.
These trainings are an opportunity for Florida farmers and producers to learn more about selling their commodities into school markets. Trainings are anticipated to take place over a two-day period, with a virtual day covering multiple topics including selling to school markets, procurement strategies, product development and growing for schools. Day two will feature in-person networking opportunities for producers with school nutrition officials and local farm tours.
Participating producers will depart trainings with actional strategies to move forward with selling to schools, including a School Business Action Plan in hand that covers how to approach schools for direct sales and how to plan their production for efficient and sustained sales.
